Conditions for Eligibility

If you wish to be considered for a PhD position, you must fulfill all of the following conditions:

  • hold a Master degree in materials science or a related field, or be enrolled in the final year
  • not hold a doctoral degree
  • have sufficient competences in English (all our internal training will be held in English) 
  • MSCA mobility rule: No residence or main activity (work, studies*, etc.) in the country of the employing university for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the start of the PhD (typically: Oct. 2022 to Sept. 2025). This country is marked in the description of each PhD project.

*Example: if a fellow is/was enrolled for a double master in Spain and in Italy, the mobility rule is applied to both countries.

(note that nationality is NOT a criterion for eligibility or evaluation. We ask for nationality, gender and handicaps of candidates only for statistical purposes)

Submission of Applications

The application form includes contact data, ranked choice of up to 3 PhDs, infos on diploma and language, 

and a number of pdf files to upload:

  • Curriculum Vitae 
  • Motivational Letter 
  • Master Diploma or proof of enrolment 
  • Bachelor Diploma
  • translations in English of diploma (unless the diploma are in English)
  • English test* (unless you have other proof of English skills) 
  • 2 Reference Letters

*English test : TOEFL PbT (min 550), or TOEFL (ibT min 79) or IELTS (min 6.5) or TOEIC (min 685) or proof of CEFR level B2 in English (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/en/resources/european-language-levels-cefr)

You must also make a ranked selection of between 1 and 3 PhD projects, for which you want to be considered.

Only pdf files can be uploaded, with size up to 4 MBytes. Please try to minimise the size of your files, and select page size = A4, orientation portrait. (when possible, generate pdf directly from text editors, for scanning use a reasonable resolution; but do not send encrypted/compressed files.)

In your CV and motivational letter, please highlight relevant skills for the selected PhD project(s), including technical know-how and soft skills. Also, please include infos on your countries of residence over the last three years, see MSCA Mobility Rule above.
